FAQ

General Questions

What types of writing do you help with?

I provide support for a wide range of writing projects, including academic essays, research papers, creative writing, personal statements, resumes, cover letters, and more. Whether you’re focused on brainstorming ideas, tackling a class assignment, looking for ongoing support, or polishing a resume, I’m here to help!

What’s included in your tutoring sessions?

My sessions are 1-on-1, offered in 1-hour increments, and fully tailored to your needs. We can review essays, assignments, applications, resumes, and more. I also provide strategies to help you tackle writing challenges and ace your projects with confidence.

How does the free consultation work?

The free consultation is a relaxed and casual chat — a 15-20 minute phone call where we’ll discuss your goals, the type of writing support you need, and how I can best help you.  It’s a no-pressure chat designed to understand your needs and ensure we’re a good fit. Fill out the form here to get started or simply ask a question!

Can I book last-minute or urgent sessions?

Absolutely! While I can’t always guarantee availability, I’ll do my best to be flexible and find a time that works for both of us.

What happens after I decide to move forward with your services?

Once you’re ready to move forward, I’ll draft a General Services Agreement that outlines your goals, our mutual expectations, and ensures everything is clear and fair for both of us. The contract is written in plain, easy-to-understand language — no confusing jargon — so you’ll know exactly what you’re signing. Once we both sign, we’re ready to get started!

Do you offer both in-person and virtual sessions?

Yes! I’m based in Virginia and offer in-person tutoring at agreed-upon public locations like coffee shops, libraries, or schools. For added flexibility, I also provide virtual sessions via Zoom or Teams — which can be easier to schedule since I work full-time from 9 AM to 5:30 PM, Monday through Friday.

How do I schedule a session?

Simply fill out the contact form with your availability, and I’ll reach out to confirm a time. If you have urgent requests or deadlines, let me know — I’ll do my best to accommodate you.

What should I prepare before our first meeting?

For the initial consultation, no preparation is necessary! If you have specific materials (like drafts, rubrics, or prompts), you’re welcome to share them in advance, but we can also discuss your needs during the call.

Experience & Credentials

What’s your background and experience?

I have a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Virginia and an MBA from the College of William & Mary — both renowned Public Ivy institutions. Before that, I was homeschooled through high school and began my college journey at Germanna Community College at just 16, where I graduated summa cum laude before transferring to UVA.

With my homeschooling background, I understand the importance of fostering an environment that prioritizes each student’s unique needs, interests, and learning style. I take a personalized approach to ensure every session is tailored to you.

In addition to tutoring, I’ve successfully developed, coached, and led several teams in the finance industry, helping them move from bottom rankings to top-performing, nationally ranked teams. By applying Agile principles like continuous feedback, iterative improvement, and collaborative problem-solving, I empowered my teams to achieve measurable success.

I’m committed to bringing that same mindset to my tutoring — providing clear guidance, actionable feedback, and the support you need to build confidence and achieve your goals.

What makes your tutoring approach different? Can't I just utilize generative AI engines like ChatGPT for free?

That’s a fair question! While tools like ChatGPT can be helpful, they can’t replace personalized guidance. I bring experience, critical thinking, and a human touch — helping you brainstorm ideas, clarify your thoughts, and strengthen your writing in ways that AI can’t.

As much as I value generative AI (and use it in my personal life quite frequently), it’s not quite able to think outside the box or confidently draw from experience and talent to shape your writing and communication growth. AI can also be easily swayed if you question it, leaving you wondering how much of its feedback was valid.

Many academic institutions aren’t entirely embracing AI-generated writing — and some disallow it altogether. My goal is to teach you how to fish, not just hand you the trout — empowering you with the skills and confidence to excel on your own.

Can you guarantee great results?

While I can’t promise specific outcomes, I can promise to equip you with the tools, strategies, and support to improve your writing, boost your confidence, and present your ideas effectively. Writing is a skill — and like any skill, the more you invest in it, the stronger you’ll become. That being said, my past clients have consistently earned A’s at schools like UVA, GMU, and VCU — and I’d love to help you achieve the same success!
